U.S. Navy F-35C Lightning II
America's newest and most advanced fighter, the Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II, will be flying in our feature show! It’s the world's only 5th generation, long-range stealth strike fighter designed and built explicitly for naval aircraft carrier operations. The carrier variant (CV) model features larger wings with foldable wingtip sections, larger wing and tail control surfaces for improved low-speed control, stronger landing gear for the stresses of carrier-arrested landings, a twin-wheel nose gear, and a stronger tailhook for use with carrier arrestor cables. The larger wing area allows for decreased landing speed while increasing both range and payload. Dayton’s F-35C will travel from Strike Fighter Squadron 125 Naval Air Station, Lemoore, California. It will be flown by LT James “TIP” Davis. The F-35C has never appeared in Dayton, so its debut demonstration will be exciting and certain to wow spectators.
